The Los Angeles Wildfire Recovery Fund is supporting select schools in Los Angeles, California with a $2000 donation

Starting December 8, 2025, qualifying projects will receive a one-time donation of $2000, while funds last. 

If your project meets the criteria below, the one-time donation will appear once it is approved and live on the site.

How to qualify:

• Teach at one of the below schools we have designated as inoperable due to wildfire damage.
  • Teachers from schools in Los Angeles Unified School District may also be eligible for additional funding through the LAUSD Education Foundation, while available.
     

Please note:

• We consider a school inoperable if the entire building(s) or a portion of a building has sustained such impact from the fires that was deemed currently unfit for educational use for an extended period. If you believe your school is inoperable and is not listed below, please let us know here by filling out a quick form.

• Only one donation up to $2000 will be applied to an eligible project per teacher. The donation is not able to be split between projects (i.e., we are not able to apply $500 to one project and $500 to another from the same teacher). If a project's cost is less than $2000, the remainder is forfeited. Therefore we recommend that the total goal for projects be as close as possible to $2000.

Q: Is there a limit to how expensive my project can be to qualify for this funding opportunity?

No. Project goals may be over $2000 total, but only $2000 total will be applied to the project. Please note that a project must be fully funded in order to be fulfilled. Therefore, if you need more than $2000 worth of materials, we recommend splitting any additional resources over $2000 into a separate, second project, to ensure the $2000 funding is received.

Q: How can I ensure that my project is fully funded by the one-time donation? 

Your project’s total goal must be lower than the $2000 one-time donation amount. The total project goal is shown on your project as you’re carting materials. If your total project goal is higher than $2000, your project will require additional funding from the DonorsChoose community in order to be fully funded and receive materials.

Q: How can I edit my project?

If your project has not received any donations, you can make any edits by returning your project to draft status. You can do this by heading over to the Projects section of your account and clicking on the "Return project to draft" button underneath your project title. Once your project is in draft status, you can make any edits and resubmit it.  Then, it will be re-screened by our team and re-posted if eligible. Read more about editing your project.

Q: Do Essentials Lists qualify for this funding opportunity?
