Details of the match
On October 26th at 7:00 am ET until funds run out, all Classroom Basics projects will receive a 2X match. That means a $20 donation will become a $40 donation, a $100 donation becomes $200, and so on.
How to qualify:
If your project meets the criteria below, new donations on your project will be matched, while funds last. You will see the match offer applied to your project as soon as it is approved and live on the site. Please note, the match offer will not appear during Friends and Family Pre-Funding.
- Create a project requesting basic school supplies like paper, writing utensils, markers, crayons, binders, dry erase boards, index cards, stickers, posters, and laminators.
- Submit your project at least 5 days before the match for the best chance to have it screened by our team and approved on our site by October 26th at 7am ET.
What won’t qualify:
- Subject-specific items like PE Equipment for gym class or music instruments for a music class.
- Storage items or flexible seating like rugs or wobble chairs.

Frequently Asked Questions:
This match only applies to projects with a total total project goal under $10,000, including taxes, shipping, fees, and the suggested donation to support DonorsChoose.
Credit card, PayPal, account credit, and gift card donations to live projects are eligible for this match. Donations made on October 26th via check and donor-advised fund (DAF) will not be matched due to processing time. If your check or DAF donation has already been processed by our team as account credits into your donor account, then your account credit donations will be matched when you place a donation.
Those items are what this funding is intended to support! If your project gets the Art Supplies categorization, you’ll still qualify for this match.
Our system automatically categorizes items, but it’s not perfect! To guarantee your project’s eligibility for this funding opportunity, ensure you’re requesting the correct items.
We’re aiming to make sure that as many projects as possible that were submitted before October 26th, 2022 are approved in time for this match. It can take up to 5 business days for a project to be screened, and in rare instances can take longer during this busy time of year.
Before the match goes live on October 26:
If the majority of your materials cost is basic school supplies, your project page will have a “Classroom Basics” or “Art Supplies” label located beneath your project essay. This indicates you’ve requested the correct materials for this match!
Starting on October 26, while funds last:
On October 26th, you should see a 2X indicator near the top of your project page, showing that donations you receive that day will be matched.
Standard, Special Request, and Professional Development projects can all qualify for this match. This means that if your project is still being reviewed (and not yet approved by a volunteer), the match offer will not appear. You can tell whether your project has been approved by looking at your Project Activity section.
If your project qualifies for other match offers when it’s approved, you’ll get that initial match offer, instead of this one-day-only match. You can learn more about how match offers work on this page.
