Starting October 5, qualifying projects can receive a one-time donation of up to $500, while funds last. Projects must be approved and posted on or after this date to receive the donation.
If your project meets the criteria below, the one-time donation will appear once it is approved and live on the site.
How to qualify:
- Teach at a DonorsChoose eligible school in Louisiana
- Complete a designated Computer Science certification through The Ignite Initiative or The Energize Project
- Create a project requesting resources to support teaching Computer Science and describe in your essay how your students will learn about Computer Science
- Request under $500 for your total project goal, including taxes, shipping, fees, and the suggested donation to support DonorsChoose. This is about $380 worth of materials. Projects with a total project goal higher than $500 will not qualify.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: When can I expect to see the donation applied to my project?
This one-time donation should be applied within 2 weeks of your eligible project being approved and posted live.
Q: Is there a limit to how expensive my project can be to qualify for this funding opportunity?
This one-time donation only applies to projects with a total project goal under $500, including taxes, shipping, fees, and the suggested donation to support DonorsChoose. Anything over the total project goal will not qualify for this one-time donation. Shipping charges may vary and the suggested donation amount can't be removed from a project's total goal. While you cannot remove the suggested donation, donors can choose to opt-out of giving a portion of their donation to DonorsChoose.
Q: How can I ensure that my project is fully funded by the donation?
Your project’s total goal must be lower than the $500 one-time donation amount. The total project goal is shown on your project as you’re carting materials. If your total project goal is higher than $500, your project will require additional funding from the DonorsChoose community in order to be fully funded and receive materials.
Q: How is information gathered about my school?
We receive our school data from a third party vendor called MDR. You can find out your school’s designation by visiting your school page through your teacher profile page.
Check this page to learn more about school page information.
Q: How can I add a particular subject area to my project?
You can select up to two subject areas that reflect your project goals and materials on the WHY page of your project draft when first creating your project.
Q: How can I edit my project?
If your project has not received any donations, you can make any edits by returning your project to draft status. You can do this by heading over to the Projects section of your account and clicking on the "Return project to draft" button underneath your project title. Once your project is in draft status, you can make any edits and resubmit it. Then, it will be re-screened by our team and re-posted if eligible. Read more about editing your project.
Q: Do Essentials lists qualify for this funding opportunity?
No. Donations placed to an Essentials list will not be matched by this funding opportunity. Essentials lists are currently not eligible to receive matching donations from any funding opportunity. You can read more about Classroom Essentials in our Help Center.
