DonorsChoose.org has created a recovery fund to help teachers at impacted schools create projects for the disaster recovery materials they need in the coming weeks. Every dollar donated at DonorsChoose.org/Hurricane-Florence will be used to fund a classroom project in a school affected by Florence.
My classroom was damaged by the storm. How can I get support?
You can create a project for the supplies you need to rebuild your classroom (if you don’t yet have an account on DonorsChoose.org, get started here). It helps to describe within your project the impact of the hurricane at your school. As we receive support from our community through the recovery page, we'll be prioritizing supporting projects in schools that have sustained damage from the storm.
How will you go about funding classrooms?
We will apply recovery funds to projects from schools that experienced significant damage during the hurricane, helping teachers reclaim items lost in the storm and/or helping classrooms being relocated to another facility. We’ve also added projects from these schools to the recovery fund page so that other donors can easily find them.
We’ll be updating our list of storm-damaged schools below as we confirm reports. If there is a public school that has sustained severe damage from the storm that is not on the below list, please submit a report to our team.

My school wasn’t damaged directly, but my community was affected. Do I qualify for support?
Our first priority is to support damaged schools directly. Should the recovery fund allow for it, we hope to then expand support for teachers at schools that were not physically damaged, but are support students who were impacted.
Our community of donors is eager to support you and your students as you rebuild, and we know that after such an event there are a multitude of needs. We encourage you to submit a project for resources you and your students need, whether in the classroom or life essentials for your students at home.
We are temporarily holding orders for the following locations. We're keeping an eye on updates for when they're able to receive shipments, and will update the below list as soon as we're able to resume.
