iHeartRadio Thank a Teacher Promotion FAQ

Update: As of January 30, the nomination window is closed. DonorsChoose gift card winners will be notified in an email from the DonorsChoose team in mid-February. Winners will also be announced on the DonorsChoose blog.


This winter, iHeartRadio and DonorsChoose are teaming up to celebrate amazing public school teachers across the country. Please see the iHeartRadio Thank a Teacher nomination page to nominate a friend, colleague, or yourself!

Select nominated teachers will be featured on their local iHeartRadio station, and every nominated teacher is in the running for one of ten $5,000 DonorsChoose gift cards for the supplies they need to make over their classroom.

How do I use the THANKATEACHER promo code?

  1. Choose a project to support.
  2. Enter the amount you'd like to give, and press "give." (Don't include the promo code match amount. We'll take care of that.)
  3. Proceed to check-out.
  4. Near the top, click on the blue text that says "Apply a gift or promo code"
  5. Enter your promo code and click "Apply" - you'll see the promo match applied to your donation!
  6. Enter remaining payment details and press "Place this donation."
  7. You’re all set!

What kinds of donations are eligible for this promo code?

Credit card, debit card, Apple Pay, and PayPal donations are all eligible to be matched with this promo code. Donations to pre-funding projects, or account credit, or gift card donations will not be eligible to be matched with this promo code.
 

How can I tell if I’ve reached my donor limit for matching funds?

When you are checking out with your cart of donations, apply the promo code. There will be a text pop-up that appears if you’ve met your limit. If you haven’t hit your limit, then the text pop-up will say you’ve successfully applied your donation.

I’m a teacher. Can I nominate myself?

Absolutely!
 

If I get nominated, how will I know?

When someone nominates you for Thank a Teacher, they will include your email address in the nomination form. Then, you will receive a message in your email inbox from email@mail.donorschoose.org asking you to consent to being nominated.
 

Can I nominate multiple teachers?

Yes!
 

Are private school teachers eligible to get nominated?

Only eligible educators at public schools and public charter schools in the US 50 states are eligible to create requests on DonorsChoose. Private schools and other non-public schools are not eligible. To see a full list of eligible schools, please see which schools are eligible to use DonorsChoose.
 

How will winners for these $5,000 DonorsChoose gift cards be selected?

Winners will be randomly selected from all eligible teacher nominees by DonorsChoose.
 

How many winners will be selected?

Ten winners will be selected throughout the 2025-2026 school year. Five winners will be selected by September 2025, and the other five winners will be selected in February 2026.
 

How will winners be notified? Where can I check for a list of winners?

DonorsChoose gift card winners will be notified in an email from the DonorsChoose team. Winners will also be announced on the DonorsChoose blog.
 

How can teachers redeem a DonorsChoose gift card?

Teachers can use a DonorsChoose gift card or gift code on any DonorsChoose project or Essentials list. Once a teacher has posted a project or list, they can apply their gift card by following these instructions. Teachers must create a project or list to apply gift card funds towards classroom resource requests.
