We welcome donations made to any school in our system, regardless of whether that school has a live project or active teacher. This allows donors to support any public or charter school through DonorsChoose!
Donations can then be made by:
- Searching directly for a school on our Support a School page
-
Browsing our classroom map for schools in a particular area
1. If a school currently has at least one live project or Classroom Essentials list*, we’ll apply the donation directly to the project/list* at the school. If the donation can fund more than one project available, we’ll distribute the funds according to urgency (lowest cost to complete + fewest days left).
2. If a school has no live projects, but does have a recently active teacher (someone who has created a project in the last 12 months), we’ll send an email to that teacher letting them know they can post a new project or Classroom Essentials list* and receive funds from the school donation. We will automatically apply the funds of the donation to the first project or list posted at the school.
3. If a school has no live projects and no recently active teachers, we’ll reach out to the school principal with the donation amount and instructions to select a teacher, who can then create a new project or Classroom Essentials list* to redeem funds. We will automatically apply the funds of the donation to the first project or list posted at the school.
*The application of funds towards Classroom Essentials lists is capped at $50 per list/teacher per school year
All donations made at the school level are tax-deductible. Depending on the redemption method of a teacher/school, donors may not be notified of the specific materials the donation ultimately helped fund.
