As a teacher, you can opt in to our Facebook Automatic Updates feature (aka "Facebook Connect"), which will automatically post to your Facebook newsfeed when there’s activity on your DonorsChoose.org projects. The feature is available through your account in the Public info tab. The best part is that you never know who in your network will be the next to step up to help your classroom!
How does it work?
For all you Facebook aficionados out there, using Facebook Automatic Updates is different from using the Facebook share tools elsewhere on our site (like on the public profile and project pages) in two main ways:
- Once you opt-in, the updates are automatic so you don’t need to worry about remembering to post, and
- The updates are dynamic and highlight everything from your new posted project to the fantastic comments donors leave when supporting your classroom. (Pretty awesome, huh?)
Will my friends appreciate the Facebook posts about my projects?
We're confident that the answer is yes! Updates are written to be fun and interesting, and friends are encouraged only to help if they can. Here's an example post:
"Three cheers for Sara from Los Angeles, CA for donating to my project!
Sara wrote, "I gave to this project because I believe reading is a very important building block for a child's future. If students are..."
We have learned from experience that most friends and family members are eager to learn about the work you're doing in the classroom and are grateful for a simple way to help you and your students.
How do I ensure my privacy and the privacy of my students on Facebook?
When using Facebook Automatic Updates, we recommend selecting the option in Facebook that allows only your friends to see your wall. To do this, select the dropdown next to Home, choose "Privacy Settings," and change the default to "Friends."
Should I also make Facebook posts on my own, in addition to the automatic updates?
Sure thing! Be sure to check out our fun shareable images that can help your fundraising posts pop.
