How we will (and won't) use a teacher's personal info

Our privacy policy describes in full the various ways we collect, use, and protect a user’s information.

We often hear questions from teachers about how we’ll use your contact details, so here are some of the primary ways we may use the information you provide about yourself.

  • Name: Your title (Mr/Ms/Mrs), first name and last name may be used in any communication with donors who've supported your projects. Your title and last name will be displayed throughout our site alongside your projects – though you can choose to display just your last initial on our public site (learn more). We'll share your full name with a vendor or shipper for delivery purposes if a project is funded.
  • Email: We’ll never sell, lease, or trade your email address with any third party. We may share your email to accomplish specific activities, for example with a vendor who’s shipping your funded resources so they can contact you directly about the order if needed. But any party who may have access to your email address has signed an agreement that they will use it for the sole purpose of completing whatever action is needed to enable DonorsChoose.org to serve you.
  • Phone number: We’ll never sell, lease, or trade your phone number with any third party. We request your cell or home phone number because we may contact you by phone if we have trouble reaching you by email with an important update about your account or project funding. We may use an automated calling service to call you with these updates, but your number won't be stored by the service or used for any other purpose.
  • School: Your school name and location will be publicly displayed alongside your projects throughout most of our site.
