When a project is fully funded, the materials will be shipped to your school’s physical address and will be addressed to your name. In unique cases where a school’s physical address cannot be used for mailing, we will use an alternative shipping address. You can tell if your school has a different shipping address when reviewing your school’s details while registering for your account, or from viewing the ‘Teaching Details’ section of your teacher account. School Physical Address
Every school in DonorChoose has a physical address. This is the address where the school is physically located on a map and the default location where materials from fully funded projects will be shipped.
If your school’s physical address is incorrect or has recently changed, you can request an update from within your teacher account. Follow the steps below:
- Log in to your teacher account and navigate the ‘Teaching details’ section.
- Under the ‘Your School’ section, click on the Update school information button.
- Select the option ‘School details are incorrect’.
- Fill out the corresponding details. Be sure to include relevant links/information so we can verify your request.

School Shipping Address
By default, materials from fully funded projects are shipped to your school’s physical address.
If your school is unable to receive packages at the physical address listed, or there is another reason another shipping address is necessary, DonorsChoose will have a separate address that will be used for sending project materials called the Shipping Address. Below are some reasons your school may have a shipping address:
- Packages/school materials are sent to a centralized location (also known as district shipping)
- Packages are temporarily being sent to another school/address due to construction
- Packages are temporarily being sent to another school/address due to a natural disaster
- Other
If your school utilizes a shipping address that is not your school’s physical address, it will be indicated beneath your school’s address with the associated reason. To request a shipping address for your school, or request an update to the existing shipping address listed, complete the steps below:
- Log in to your teacher account and navigate the ‘Teaching details’ section.
- Under the ‘Your School’ section, click on the Update school information button.
- Select the option ‘School details are incorrect’.

Fill out the corresponding details and change the Address Type drop-down from Physical Address to Shipping Address.

You will also have an opportunity to make this request while confirming your fully funded project to make sure your materials end up at the right location.
* Note: DonorsChoose cannot send materials to the following locations:
- Residential locations, including homes of administrators
- Offices or buildings that are not affiliated with your school or district
- Offices or buildings that are part of other school districts
What if my school has multiple locations?
Some schools may have annex or satellite locations, campuses, or exist in separate buildings. To allow for easy distinction of locations and ensure proper shipping, we typically catalog schools on our site by physical address. This means that each school location will exist as a separate school in our system with a corresponding indicator in the school name i.e. “Washington Elementary - Main Street Campus” and “Washington Elementary - Broad Street Campus.”
If your school has multiple locations, we may have the specific location you are looking for as a separate school. If you still aren’t able to find the proper location on our school search page, we’d be happy to add an additional location to our site. Please submit a school addition request and provide as much detail as possible so that we can accurately catalog your school in our database.
What if my project materials can’t be sent to the school?
While it is DonorsChoose policy to mail all project materials to schools directly or to an approved shipping address associated with the school, there may be some extenuating circumstances that may require an alternative shipping option.
