With monthly giving, your card is charged once per month to provide ongoing support for teachers and students. You can choose a specific project, or let the DonorsChoose team direct your gift where it’s needed most.
You can cancel your monthly classroom gift at any time by first signing into your account and then visiting the Private Info tab of your account or edit your monthly gift. For further information on how to adjust or cancel your gift, see below.
How do monthly donations work?
- Choose the amount you’d like to donate each month.
- We’ll charge your card on the 17th of each month and notify you when credits are available in your DonorsChoose account. Alternatively, you can select a teacher or school to donate to on a monthly basis.
- You’ll have 30 days in which to hand-pick a classroom project(s) to apply your monthly credits. If you selected a specific teacher or school to support, we'll send your funds as a monthly gift card each month to that teacher, or we’ll distribute your funds monthly to the selected school.
After 30 days, if you haven’t picked a project, we’ll allocate your donation to one that is in urgent need of support.
*If the charge fails on the 17th -- often due to an expired card, a canceled card, a temporarily disabled card, or an insufficient balance -- we will try again the following month.

Please note that if the teacher receiving your monthly gift deactivates their account, we will automatically cancel your gift within 30 days, so we aren't sending funds to a teacher unable to use them. In some cases, we may redirect the gift to your own donor account as credits.
Step 1: Navigate to your "Private Info" tab in your account and click "Edit enrollment"
Step 2: Scroll to the bottom of the page, and click "Cancel my donation"
Step 3: Confirm your cancellation on the pop-up window by clicking "Cancel my donation"
