ColorPop Books is the newest initiative from DonorsChoose: an online bookstore featuring vibrant, representative book bundles — each packed with stories and characters that reflect the identities and experiences that are all too rare in children’s books. With each book bundle purchase, a portion is donated to the ColorPop Books Donation Fund, which brings books to historically underfunded public schools via DonorsChoose classroom projects. Frequently Asked Questions
DonorsChoose teachers inspired us to create ColorPop Books. Over the years, we've helped thousands of teachers bring representative books into their classrooms. One of the things our teacher requests have illustrated over the years is a clear need for more representative and diverse books that allow students to feel seen — and to help them learn from the experiences of others, too. With every ColorPop book bundle purchased, $5 is donated to our Book Donation Fund, which brings identity-affirming books directly into public school classrooms via DonorsChoose projects. Learn more on the ColorPop Books impact page (clicking this link will take you to colorpopbooks.com).

Each book in the ColorPop Books library is carefully selected with intention and care. We’ve listened to DonorsChoose teachers, read hundreds of books, and studied thousands of reviews to find identity-affirming and inspiring children’s books, specifically sourcing books that center underrepresented voices. A ColorPop Books box features three thoughtfully selected, diverse books, a self-portrait activity book, a ColorPop affirmation card, and access to the ColorPop Crew parent community.
At ColorPop Books, we try our best to source books that are written and illustrated by creators whose lived experience directly reflects their book content. In 2021, only 36% of children’s books published in the US were written by people of color (Black/African American, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian, Arab, Pacific Islander).* Despite the lack of representation, we’ve set a goal that at least 50% of books in our bookshop will be written/illustrated by creators from underrepresented communities by 2025.
